OIL CHANGE MA: IS IT TIME FOR A TUNE-UP?
Today is National Tune-Up Day! If it’s been a while since your car has had a once-over, today is a great day to call Ray’s Auto Service, even if you just need an oil change in MA. But there are plenty of other things that you should check on your car to make sure it stays running for as long as possible.
HERE’S WHAT WE DO DURING A TUNE-UP, BESIDES GIVING YOU AN OIL CHANGE.
SPARK PLUGS
Your car has one spark plug for each cylinder in your engine. Typically, spark plugs last about 80,000 miles. If your odometer is reaching that mile marker, you check to make sure your spark plugs are still working well or if you need to replace them.
IGNITION COMPONENTS
That ignition is what starts the engine, so it’s pretty important for it to work properly. The spark plugs are part of the ignition system, but there are other components, too, including the distributor cap, rotor, and spark plug wires. If any of these components go, you won’t be able to start your engine.
FUEL FILTER
Crud builds up throughout your car, so there are various filters to keep it from interfering with the operation of your engine. One of these is the fuel filter. If too much gunk builds up on the filter, it restricts the flow of the fuel into the engine. Eventually, you need to change the filter to restore the proper flow of fuel.
AIR FILTER
Your engine actually takes in more air than fuel. It needs air to ignite the fuel, but that air needs to be clean before it enters the engine for combustion. Each make and model has special air filters, so if you replace them yourself, make sure you get the right type.
COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS
Cars are pretty much computers on wheels these days. But the benefit of this is that mechanics can connect to your car’s computer to see how the car is performing. If there is something wrong, the computer will generate diagnostic codes that indicate what the problem is.
